Racebook Review Overall Rating: A
Even when you lose, you win on eHorse.com, thanks to one of the most generous rebate programs in all of horse race wagering.
A lot of sites reward "whales", the heaviest bettors, who are used to perks and comps. However,
eHorse
extends considerations down to the most casual players. Weekly givebacks range from three percent on every dollar up to the first $2,000. From there it gets even better. A player, who bets between $2,000 and $4,999, gets a 3
percent kickback. The return for $5K to $10K is four percent; for $10K to $20K, it's
4 percent and above $20K, it's five percent. At the top end, this is like $1,000 worth of free plays each week.
Other strengths include a well organized and easy to maneuver site. Tracks are listed on a dropdown menu and when a specific oval and race is selected, the full field is displayed, with horse's name, jockey, trainer and odds. The full menu of betting options is also displayed.
Payoffs are about as good as it gets. Full track odds are paid on win, place, show and quinielas. Exacta and daily doubles are capped at 275-1 and trifectas can pay as much as 500-1. It's strange that with limits such as these that at least pick threes aren't offered with the same caps. Maybe this is a subtle message to players that the pick three offers the greatest chance for a player to hit a sizable payoff with a minimum investment.
Another situation favorable to bettors is the ability to make a wager right up to post time and quick credits to accounts once the official is posted at the track.
like most other sites, eHorse does not take multi-race gimmicks other than daily doubles. No pick threes, pick fours or pick sixes. This is to limit exposure since all bets are booked, not commingled into track pari-mutuel pools. Payoffs are unpredictable because of small pools related to bettor unfamiliarity. However, before making a wager, a player can check the odds on the site to see it they meet expectations.
Betting limits are on the high side. Tracks are divided into four categories: Red, White, Blue and Green. The classiest circuits-the New York Racing Association; the Southern California tracks (excluding Fairplex); Churchill Downs and Keeneland in Kentucky; Gulfstream and Oaklawn Parks--are Category Red. eHorse will take $1,000 win bets, $400 place bets and $200 show bets on these tracks. Exacta, quinela and daily double players can wager up to $300 and trifecta plays will be taken up to $100.
The tracks generally recognized as a notch below the best - Northern California; Fairplex; Calder; the other Kentucky tracks, Turfway and Ellis Park; Maryland, Texas, the Meadowland and Woodbine-are White. There the across the board limits are $600-$300-$100. Exactas can be played up to $200 and trifectas have a $50 cap.
The lesser thoroughbred operations-Beulah and Thistledown in Ohio; Charles Town, Colonial Downs, Delaware, Emerald Downs, Evangeline, Finger Lakes, Hoosier, Penn National, Turf Paradise and Mountaineer-fall into the Blue listings. Harness tracks Yonkers, Freehold and Hoosier also are listed in Blue. Across the board caps are $300-$100-$50 with $100 tops on the main gimmicks and $25 on trifectas.
Relegated to Green are Delta Downs and Great Lakes Down. Bets here are limited to $150-$50-$25 across the board, $50 on the major exotics and $15 on trifectas. Those who hit it big will not share their windfall immediately with Uncle Sam, as happens at the track, but eHorse advises that it is up to the bettor to eventually play fair and square with his or her government.
Deposits and withdrawals adhere to the industry norm. Western Union, ATMs, FirePay and NetTeller, as well as credit cards, are among the ways to open and replenish accounts.
Few sites can claim something truly distinctive but eHorse does. It has created a new kind of wager - the e quinela-- for people tired of getting split in exactas or quinielas. In addition to the traditional quinela payoffs for the first two finishers (in either order), the e quinela has payoffs for first and third or second and third. Since there are no such bets at American tracks, eHorse creates its own pari-mutuel pool with an admirably low takeout-12 percent (with the minimum 3 percent rebate, this effectively lowers it to no more than 9 percent).
You can't beat that. Indeed, it's hard to beat much of anything on eHorse.com.
